You haven’t heard from me as often recently because I’ve been at a loss for words. It could be because it is the festive season and there is the stress of preparing for this celebration and going to other people’s parties as well. Nevertheless, as I was waiting to pick up my grandson the other day there were cockatoos everywhere – perhaps 50 or 60 of them flying around and screeching loudly. There are people I know who have backyard aviaries with cockatoos and I must say the birds are more peaceful and willing to relate with their owners. Whereas the cockatoos around the schoolyard sound absolutely crazy as they chase each other from tree to tree.

Parrots are fun
Have an aviary in your backyard and feel the benefits of providing safe accommodation for your birds. Parrots are fun, so try housing a couple and enjoy having them as pets. You get an aviary which you can easily assemble and which can make your yard attractive, making your environment alive with the chattering of these friendly creatures.
Nana look at that coloured bird on those telephone wires”. Julie admired the parrot and replied “that’s a Galah, darling”. But Julie wondered how safe that beautiful bird was. She remembered that when she was little her grandparents had an aviary with parrots and she loved visiting. So Julie went an bought an aviary for her two new parrots in her backyard, know that her grandchildren would look forward to the visits. Her cat wished they were free so he could chase them but fortunately they are safe.
Bird homes
I found this photo to show you a hexagonal aviary. You can get different types of bird homes, hexagonal or rectangular aviaries, and they are in colours which complement your yard. Designed to provide good accommodation for your birds this means that you can appreciate birdlife without having to keep them inside or having to chase around in the bush to see them.
Nicholas was 12 years old when his parents promised him the birds of his choice if he was willing to do chores in order to earn some money for his share of the cost of an aviary. This was the most joyful task he had ever had in his life. After six months of dedicated work he had saved up enough that his parents felt his contribution was worthwhile. In actual fact they were so impressed at the way he applied himself to this project. They installed an aviary and he began his bird collection with a pair of cockatoos.

Birds as pets
When you have birds as pets, an aviary is the best option to keep them housed. You can get a hexagonal or rectangular shape which is ideal for your birds and keeps them protected from the weather. At the same time they are in their natural environment. An aviary is affordable and can fit in well in your backyard. You can keep one bird or more, depending on the size and type of aviary you choose.
Jane is a sole parent with 2 children. She tries to give her boys a normal lifestyle but some things are just too expensive like having and feeding cats or dogs as pets. However, their grandfather gave them a cockatoo and an aviary to keep it in, which Jane found economical to have. This also gave her boys a pet of their own to love and care for, an important learning experience for kids.

A mention in The Blogger’s Garden
It was good to be recognised in The Blogger’s Garden about our post on the importance of Australian made sheds. Another important selection criteria for the appropriate shed is that you get one with a long warranty which shows that the manufacturer believes in their product and so can you.
You get free measure and quote in most cases and it can be DIY or they will assemble the shed for you.
