Shed for a study

Student, photo by Gonzalo Silva, Puerto Montt, Chile, quiet spaceGarden sheds are great to use as a study when you have a medium house with a large family. The shed can be any size you want and can be made comfortable for students to use away from the noise of a busy home with the TV playing and children playing loudly. Usually the older students need a quiet place to study, where they usually like to have music or even a portable TV playing as background sound. Sometimes the study is used by the parents too. Such a garden shed has good ventilation, is weatherproof and with a slab flooring is waterproof.

Tim was at Uni and was grateful for the shed his parents had installed so that he could use as a study. Sometimes his friends came and together they prepared group assignments. At other times his younger brother Jack would come and do his homework with him too. They were close and this was some of their time together. Then again Tim had a portable TV and he would take a break from studies and watch a show. Tim’s parents had chosen a shed that was comfortable, well ventilated and in the daytime had natural light through the skylight and one window. Also the shelves they had put in meant he could keep all his reference books close by.

A garden shed that will be used as a study can be assembled for you or you can do it yourself.

A shed for jam sessions

Drummer, photo by Dominic Morel, Knysna, South Africa, a gig When your kids plan to become famous musicians and they practise with their band members every night, you need some relief. A garden shed that has been made soundproof can be the ideal space for them to jam as often as they want and until they sound good. Such a shed is easy to assemble and affordable. Also waterproof, such shed can withstand strong winds, so it is worth the money. The slab flooring protects the equipment left in there, as does the lock-up feature.

Harry showed a strong interest in getting his mates together and forming a band. They hoped to be booked for weddings and parties. Their music showed promise but his mother couldn’t bear the noise any more. So together with his father and mates they assembled a workshop in the backyard and made it soundproof. They figured that it would probably take a good six months before they were ready but at least now they could play stuff over and over until they got it right without disturbing the rest of the family or the neighbours. Their equipment was safe because it is a lock-up shed.

Check it out and find one of these sheds that suits you and you can DIY or have it assembled.

Backyard business

Beautician's chair, photo by Joseph Zlomek, Pottstown, United States, www.joezlomek.com, paid hobbyA garden shed has many uses such as even providing premises for a backyard business. The ventilated gables and skylight makes it comfortable and the windows provide well distributed daylight. The shed is weatherproof and the wraparound corners ensure it is waterproof. Easy to assemble, this shed can be DIY or you can have it assembled for you. Having shelving installed allows for good utilisation of space. Its lock-up feature means that no one can enter your workshop when you’re not there.

Virginia had been a hairdresser/beautician when she met Phil who was a successful electrical contractor and they married. Soon they had a family of two sets of twins which meant that Virginia was needed to be a stay-at-home mum. However, she missed her career and decided she needed to have a paying hobby. Phil agreed and built her a workshop in the yard and he set it up so that she could use it comfortably. She had a small clientele and this kept her happy in her role as wife and mother.

A garden shed that is used for a backyard business also comes in a colour that is attractive for your garden.

Storage box

Storage BoxYou can get a storage box with double hinged doors and fully enclosed. What’s more a storage box comes in an easy to transport and and easy to assemble kit. It can be used for storing many things and keeps your tools and equipment in good condition, away from the ravages of the weather. This box is an attractive addition to your backyard and the colour scheme complements the landscaping design in your garden.

Fred did not need a large garden shed, so he assembled a storage box which suited him fine to keep most of his garden tools and pool equipment safe and protected. Maybe later he might need something bigger but for now this was perfect and fit nicely in their budget.

Check it out and see for yourself.

Shed under eaves

Store Smart ShedI found this image that shows you how you can tuck a storage shed under the eaves of your home. The Store Smart shed is deep enough for storing your tools and equipment and it can also have shelving. As there is no rear overhang it allows the shed to be placed hard up against walls taking up less space.

Abby has a home which suits her family. She is a sole parent with 2 kids, and her mother lives with her too. The home has a small backyard which needs minimum upkeep, however, there are still things to do to keep it looking good. Abby had a shed assembled alongside her home and she is pleased with its usefulness. In keeping her garden tools in this shed then her family can use the space available for leisure activities.

Weatherproof and attractive this shed is ideal for fitting up against the side of your home.

Garden shed slab flooring

Garden Shed Slab FlooringA garden shed is made unbeatable when it has the right flooring. The one I am talking about now has slab flooring which is an inexpensive alternative to concrete. It’s sturdy and makes the garden shed weatherproof, enabling it to become resistant to strong winds and remain waterproof. The measurements for the slabs are 500mm x 500mm x 40 mm. This makes it possible to have whatever size shed flooring you require.

Annie loves water-skiing and her husband’s passion is their speedboat. So every weekend they are on the water having fun. With the help of his mates, Les assembled a garden shed big enough to keep his speedboat and trailer stored in. As well as that, they keep their skiing and fishing equipment in the shed too. They’ve got a garage but for them having a shed just for their speedboat, skiing and fishing gear feels good, and is far more practical. That’s because they are a ‘three car family’ and that leaves the garage just for their cars.

This is a family that knows how to use storage sheds well. You should see the garden shed for their landscaping efforts! But that’s another story.

Spare garage

Utility Shed 2To have a spare garage is a great solution to a space problem. It can also mean having a place for the safekeeping of an extra car. Such a garage is assembled easily and has sturdy slab flooring as an alternative to concrete. This type of utility shed is weatherproof and resists strong winds, as was seen in the gale last year.

Gregory, a mechanic, is full of pride when any of his sons are interested in developing skills in the same field. Tom his eldest son got his license early and is an apprentice mechanic. Over a short period of time Tom rebuilt a car from an old model and this experience earned him top marks in his course. To save friction, Gregory and his sons assembled a shed that serves as a garage for Tom and his project car. Eventually that garage will be used by the younger sons, Steve and John, if they are interested. So it serves a practical purpose as well as inspiring the others. Tom can lock up the garage when he’s not there and that’s a great safety measure. When he’s there his brothers and friends help out and this gives them such a kick and usually makes Tom popular.

This universal utility shed provides an economical way to store your vehicle, as well as being ideal for a boat or trailer. Such a shed is available in two heights: 2.03m and 2.25m. It also comes in a Mist Green colour with Smooth Cream doors. A single access door is sold as an accessory. Shelving is also easy to install and a great space saver.

Store Smart shed

Store Smart ShedFor tools and equipment, the ideal shed is a Store Smart which has the depth to store equipment, like a lawnmower or bikes, and yet slim enough to optimise storage space for people living in high density areas. It also fits easily under the eaves of a house, a garage or in a carpark. Because it has internal sliding doors there’s more space around it.

Bernie has lots of garden equipment and various tools which are practical because he is a productive person. Bernie enjoys maintaining an attractive garden, carrying out repairs constantly and to top it off his family is involved with many hobbies which he takes pride in helping them maintain their equipment. So, for Bernie the Store Smart shed is the best because it fits neatly against the wall or under eaves outside the house.

This type of shed is also easy to assemble and has customised shelving to maximise storage too.

Take care of your pool filter

Pool Filter Cover 2It’s been a while since I wrote about a pool filter cover. This is such an important accessory for your pool. So that you can have an effective pool filter you need to make sure it is covered and protected from the ravages of climate. You can get a cover that comes in a kit and is easy to assemble.

Peter has two kids who are accomplished in their school swimming teams, as he was in his time. All lovers of swimming, the family has a great pool which Peter is very particular about, keeping it in good condition because it is used often. The pool filter is one of the best and he protects it well by having a decent pool filter cover which he assembled himself and which is a mist green colour to match their garden.

Another important aspect of the pool filter cover is the full width mesh back for ventilation and safety. Worth looking into.

Pet Home

Dog KennellLook at how attractive this kennel is for your pet. It has a small skillion roof and fits neatly into your yard.  Animals like having somewhere that smells like their own space, even if they spend a lot of time inside your home. When visitors come it also means your pet can retreat to its own safe space.

Joe has a dog, Bobby, who is 10 years old and a good companion for the whole family. Bobby is also a good watchdog because he barks and doesn’t bite. However, when people visit then Bobby keeps to his home which is a kennel in the yard. It is noticeable that the dog enjoys his kennel because he can be found sleeping there at different times of the day when he’s not in the house.

These kennels are easy to assemble and affordable.
