A greenhouse with a difference

Pcdv0029, photo from Sheds Plus NSW, small greenhouseI couldn’t resist showing you this picture of a small greenhouse that fits neatly along the side of a building. You will surely agree that this is an ideal greenhouse, a greenhouse with a difference.  Obviously, you can manage something this size and it is suitable for small projects that need your plants to be protected until they are ready to be planted in the garden. Some special plants may need a protected environment such as this greenhouse, all the time.

This is because such delicate plants will not survive out in the climate we have and are precious.  Plants like that are also entered into competitions, so they need to be kept in this environment.

There are people who get great serenity from caring for exotic plants that are kept in a greenhouse and such a type of hobby can provide a form of meditation, quite therapeutic in this age of stresses.

Family Pets

Animals 1, photo by Lily Rosen, Tel Aviv, Israel, house petsThere are few people without family pets nowadays. And in this country pets are usually loved and cared for. People pay a lot for particular breeds of pets. Others save pets from being put down and give them good homes. Speaking of good homes, even if your pet spends most of the time inside it’s best to have a kennel for those times when they need to be outdoors too. A dog kennel from a garden shed manufacturer is made especially for that use.

Peter and Judy’s cat and dog were the only family they had. Cindy the dog usually slept in the lounge room and had access in and out of the house, meaning she could guard the house for them. Smoky the cat had his role to keep creepy crawlies away too. The affection both these family pets gave and received was good for everyone. They got on with each other too which was unusual for a cat and dog, but not uncommon. Now and then both these family pets liked spending time in their pet home - a neat garden shed especially made for this purpose. It was as though the pets wanted to have time out every now and then.

Animals can deal with their territorial needs by having a kennel where their strong odours permeate their environment whereas this is not so in the house itself.

A small pet home with a skillion roof complements your backyard and provides a neat refuge for your family pets.

Pottery Shed

Pottery Studio, Matthew Trow, Johannesburg, South Africa, hobby shed If you have the room, you could have a garden shed that’s this size. However, a smaller one can serve just as well for a pottery shed. A studio needs to be available for whenever the artist gets inspired. Having it set up in the home can be a huge mess and not conducive to family living. The garage has another role. So the ideal solution is to have a garden shed as pottery studio, especially one that locks up and is weatherproof.

Darren is a multi talented person. He is a martial arts trainer, remedial masseur, qualified hairdresser, philosopher, carpenter/renovator, and has 7 children. He decided to take up a new hobby - pottery. So in his usual way he threw himself into his latest interest. He had recently remodelled his home, including the garage which he turned into a gym. So he installed a garden shed to be his pottery studio.

How’s that for a great idea. You too can do the same. If you aren’t as able as Darren to DIY the shed then, once you’ve chosen the size and colour, have the dealer assemble it for you.

Lock-up workshop

Shays tools, photo by dria peterson, Tel Aviv, Israel, tool collectionWhen you see a sight like this, with all the tools in order, then you know that using them would be great. Some people like everything at easy reach and orderly. Perfectionists depend on such organisation. Others just prefer the ability to find their tools without turning things upside down. Whichever the case when tools are set up this way, it motivates us to have the same.

His garage had every conceivable tool and piece of equipment because he was the type who enjoyed his hobbies to the last detail. He worked in management but his father had been an industrial arts teacher, so he taught his son many things and how to use the right tools. This also meant how to maintain his tools and equipment. As everyone in the family used the garage too, he became annoyed at things being moved around. So he got a weatherproof garden shed installed which he used as his lock-up workshop. That meant should anyone need a tool then they would be accountable for it, because he had the keys.

Some solutions are quite simple if you know how to go about resolving the problem.

Garden tools

Garden Flowers, photo by Grzegorz Wiecek, Krakow, Poland, landscaping toolsHaving a landscaped garden means you need to ensure that you have good garden tools to maintain it. A lot of work went into creating your attractive garden and no doubt you enjoy the way it looks. You also enjoy working in your garden whenever you can. That’s the way it usually is with people who have great looking gardens. It’s also a hobby as well as important to the value of their home.

The important aspect to that whole process is having the right garden tools and keeping them in good condition. That’s why a suitable garden shed is vital. Especially one that is attractive enough to complement your garden and one that locks to protect your equipment.

Pool Filter Covers

Pool, photo by Tori Campbell, Fort Worth, clean poolHow great it is to have a pool that looks as clean and clear as this one? That’s easy, make sure you have good equipment - a pool filter cover takes care of your equipment. It also protects your equipment and ensures it works well. That means it will last longer. Hunt around and find the size and colour you want.

You can get the pool filter cover that has full width mesh back for ventilation and also for safety. Another good thing to think about is a hinged lid and double hinged doors for easy accessibility.

Look out for a transportable model, one that is an easy to assemble kit form for installation of your pool filter cover.

Dog house

Dogs, photo by Clodiney Cruz, Vicosa, Brazil, pups for petsImagine being blessed with an adorable litter of pups like these. Whether you got them because you’re a breeder or because your dog surprised you, having a dog house that will accommodate them is easier than you think. You can have a garden shed especially made to serve as a kennel which is weatherproof and comes in different colours to suit your house and garden.

I had a beautiful German Shepherd called Kara, and I was wanting to let her have one litter before we had her spayed. So I had a gorgeous male ready for her but we were waiting for her time to come. When she was ready the owner of the other dog was having marital problems and had locked herself with her dogs in her room for the day, sulking. When I came home from work I found Kara gallivanting in the cal de sac with 3 or 4 dogs. I suspected that the deed had been done because they all looked pretty happy. Well she gave birth to 10 lovely pups (see November 15 post) and I sure needed the kennel for their comfort and ours.

You too can have a neat dog house for your pet or pets, which will add to your attractive yard and can also be practical.

Weatherproof garden sheds

Clouds, photo by Simona Dumitru, Paris, France, bad weatherAn important thing to look for in a garden shed is that it’s weatherproof, there are some that are moreso than other garden sheds on the market. What makes them weatherproof? The sheds have wraparound corners which provide added strength and weather protection.

There are garden sheds that can fit along the side of your house or anywhere in the back where it suits you, for whatever purpose. Especially important is that you can have the garden shed size of your choice and in attractive colours to choose from.

Good for storage, attractive for the backyard and weatherproof, what more can you ask for?

Garden sheds for equipment storage

Brand new mower, photo by anon, Australia, equipment storageI couldn’t resist using this lawnmower photo.  So I will take this opportunity to remind you all that garden sheds are great for equipment storage.  Apart from using the shed as your workshop, you can store the lawnmower, wheelbarrow and gardening tools.  All that and the shed locks up keeping everything safe and sound.

In using a garden shed for storage of your equipment you leave your backyard nice and tidy.  The equipment is kept in good condition longer and you have room in other parts of your place where you perhaps would have stored this stuff without a shed.

Whether you wish to DIY or have it installed is entirely up to you and what you want to do.  Go check it out.

Landscaping your garden

Paving stone 2, photo by Claire Brown, Nottingham, United Kingdom, garden decorYou’ve designed your garden and now it looks absolutely awesome. There’s a garden shed that was easily assembled which is weatherproof and ideal for storage of your equipment. The colour you chose looks good in your garden and it’s a workshop too, really practical.

Landscaping your garden was the easy part and when they installed the slab flooring for your garden shed you found out that they do the paving too. That was the finishing touch to your garden.

What more do you need? Nothing, it’s perfect.
